Yet another loss to the Amateur radio market!
Richard, VE2DX back in January 2020 started a company called VE2DX Electronics design. that wanted to provide innovative products for the Amateur radio community, and that he did. I have been following his product line up, and it has progress throughout the years. He seemed to be always advancing his product line with quality and creative projects. His product line was picked by DX Engineering in the U.S. which is a major in road to a very large Amateur radio market. Below, Richard explains in an honest, upfront release as to the direct reason for his departure from his dream come true adventure.
VE2DX ELECTRONICS DESIGN MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT!!!!
1- Shipping to the USA:
Please be advised that we can not and will not ship anything to the USA as of September 19th, 2025, because the shipping companies in Canada will NOT take any shipment unless WE pay YOUR tariffs in advance.
These Tariffs are from US Customs, and there have been many administrative errors, such as the fact that our products are covered under USMCA and should not be subject to any tariffs AT ALL!
As a result, US Customs is requesting that transport companies pay in advance for US citizen tariffs. Consequently, these transport companies are charging our company tariff fees, making it almost impossible to collect the payments from our customers, many weeks or months after the fact.
Let's be very clear: we are not charging anyone any tariffs, nor is Canada. These tariffs are imposed by US Customs and are to be paid by the importer, not the Canadian exporter.
Bottom line, we will no longer be able to ship anything to the USA. We invite you to contact our US-based resellers if you need any products.
2- HamCation, HanVention, HamXposition, and other US Hamfests.
We will be cancelling our presence at ALL US hamfests for 2026 (See Point 4).
3- Is VE2DX Electronics Design for sale
YES! Please contact us if you are interested (See Point 4).
4- Are we going to close?
Yes, :( Many of you have been following and supporting us from the very beginning.
No later than last week, I was in NH to discuss a potential US partner and initiate some manufacturing in the USA, but the numbers just aren't there. :(
I am very sorry to inform you that, as of November 2025, VE2DX Electronics Design Inc. will no longer exist.
We continually strive to develop innovative approaches and technologies that can assist our fellow ham operators at a fair price. As a result, it took us far too long to become profitable. This, combined with the August 2024 floods and US Customs tariffs, makes it impossible to develop further. As a result, we must consider selling or closing our beloved company. And for those of you who heard my awful jokes in the past, YES! I will now have to do the dishes ;P
I will continue working on designs and software updates, but will no longer be marketing them. I will be happy to help as an Elmer, localy or not as I have often done.
I want to thank everyone for their support over these GREAT six years. And I hope for a QSO over the air soon...
:(

This is what happens when people believe the ridiculous statement that exporters will pay tariffs. But these tariffs are illegal anyway, since Congress has control over their imposition. But its typical of damage from the abuse of power we’ve come to expect; and how’s the promise that the East Wing wouldn’t be touched going?
I AAM VERY SADDENED TO HEAR THIS THAT IS THE VERY REALITY AS SEEN WHAT HAPPENS IN THE
CASE OF ABUSE OF POWER FROM THE CURRENT US PRESIDENT.

Good morning Richard and always nice to hear from you. I just wanted to bring a face and company into the mix and how it is affecting Amateur radio. This closure will have an affect on both sides of the boarder.
73 and have a nice weekend.

Good morning Michael and it’s always nice to hear from someone from down under. Yes and I imagine this is not the end to the pain form some in our hobby. At my place of employment of 30 years for last 9 years we had to deal with a director who had his own theory of how a successful company worked. In management no one dare speak out or is was the door for you. Turn over was huge, toxic work place for those who stayed. As always when the director left the huge company was in shambles. At his departing he went on how well he did, how he built an amazing company and he will be remembered as a legacy. This is not a comparison to the U.S. president BUT it actually happened to me. I guess the director I endured for 9 years is not a one off….but there are others like him.

I have been hit by tarrifs on ham stuff coming into Canada from the USA
The shippers are not accurately charging the right fees or should be none at all but regardless
China has no tarrifs into Canada so everyone is buying Chinese
A $250 mast cost me $260 to clear which includes a $100 brokerage fee
The complaint chain goes into circles so you are forced to pay it with no recourse. SMB is being destroyed by this causing a loss of more jobs…..more to come
Good afternoon John, very nice to hear from you. I was going to order a certain antenna, and with the tariff Canada now has on aluminum, the total price jumped more than I wanted to pay. Very true that the small biz folks will hurt the most from this, and VE2DX is just one example.
73 and have a great weekend.

Simple solution. Break away from the canadian federation, become a US state or independent country. Problem solved.
Also, any cash assets will be exchanged 1:1 for US dollars. A 25% value increase.
What is not to like..
Good afternoon, Bob, and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. In most cases the “simple solution” or too good to be true it is just that, not simple and not true. Since you brought it up, I would like to address it. To become part of the U.S. for most Canadians is out of the question. I am profoundly proud of our federation. Our leadership when they loose congratulates those who won and wishes them well. Our politicians, corporations and private citizens can speak freely about our governing party without fear of retribution, threat of removal from office or social media rants. Our country only uses its military and reservist for internal and external disaster relief, world peace missions and to defend our amazing country from outside threats. Benefits such as pregnancy leave, work place injury financial support, at age 65 prescriptions for seniors and so on. Yes, are taxes are higher than the U.S. but you get what you pay for. The 25% gain is just in a drop in the bucket to what we have to give up.
The closing of VE2DX in Quebec (I am in New Brunswick) is the direct result of a policy of retaliation and not fentanyl or national security, but this is not the platform to venture down that road.
Thanks again Bob for your input it is always welcome.
Have a great weekend
Mike
