shack tour.

I always thought “why don’t more people share their shacks” well when I was approached to create a tour of mine. Its clearly quite a nerve racking thing. Allowing people into your inner sanctum and allowing people to see how you operate and how your equipment is set up is strangely one of the more worrying things Ive done in recent weeks.

Well if you are interested you can see the video here. 1 comment from Sandy – has already requested a further video on the morse keys I have. So in the upcoming days / weeks I will be uploading a amendment video to show what I have.

Shack pictures

Overview photo showing the new chair.  I also shifted everything on the bench top to the left.  I picked up a used 19″ flat screen monitor for $40 from eBay.  I put that at the right end of the bench top.  The tiny screen of the Netbook was giving me a hard time due to the age/eyes thing.

Kind of a “View from the Operator’s Position” kind of shot.

Frontal view – K3 in front, KX3 right above. Elecraft Hex Key to the right, SKCC Straight Key to the left. HRD is running on the new monitor.  To the immediate right of the KX3 is a Fox Hunt “mascot” Ty stuffed animal. To the left of the KX3 is my Radio Shack amplified speaker for the K3, my OHR WM1 Watt meter. All the way to the left is a Yaesu 2 Meter radio (for those rare times that I get on 2 Meters).

Bottom line is that it’s still a basement shack in an unfinished basement.  No wall to wall carpeting, finished ceilings or fancy paneling on the walls.  But it is where I spend a lot of time, so at least it’s pretty neat and clean, now.

Back from Christmas break

There’s been a bit of radio silence over the last 2 weeks. mainly because I’ve not been at home. We spent Christmas and new year up in Scotland and then I started a new job last week away was away from home for 3 days. Hence the quiet conditions. I prefer not to broadcast that I’m away until after the event, just in case.

I did have a couple of hours listening in for the Christmas cumulative but only worked a couple of stations that were very close. Apart from that Santa dig bring me a new antenna for 6m, which was interesting on the way home (My journey down was spent hoping that the cardboard tube would stay in tact, despite torrential rain). This has prompted me to have a rethink about my shack and what kit is going where, what I need and what I can sell on. Plenty to think about.

I hope Santa was good to you and here’s wishing everyone an active new year.

I thought I’d catch it before it all goes wrong with too much stuff on it! The only enhancement it needs is a full size rig (or two)
