R.I.P. Sadie

A few hours ago, our cat Sadie passed away, peacefully in her sleep.

It’s never easy when a pet dies. Sadie’s passing was even tougher as she was the first addition to our family after Marianne and I married back in 1998.  Sadie was adopted and joined our family the very first week that we moved into our house that October.  I’ll never, ever forget when we met Sadie the first time.  We went to a pet store and she was in a crate where she was waiting to be adopted.  The lady from the store took her out of the crate and was going to hand her to me, when Sadie quite literally jumped out of her hands and into my arms.  Needless to say, it was love at first sight for both of us.

Until that point, I had always been a “dog person” and had never even considered having a cat.  Sadie was special.

She was estimated to be between 1 -2 years old at the time we adopted her.  I have no idea why she was let go, but she lived a happy 13+ years with us.  Over the past few years, she developed thyroid and liver problems.  Gradually she weakened to the point where she just gave out.

I love you Sadie. I am so glad that I was still able to hold you and pet you before you left us. I will miss you greatly.

    My condolences.

We were owned by a cat for 19 years. Her passing was as painful as losing a close member of the family. You interact with your pets everyday and when they are gone … it leaves a big hole.

May pleasant memories of Sadie bring you smiles after your grief.

My XYL and I send our condolences too… We lost our 23 yr old cat 3 days ago. Believe it or not she looked like your … except toward the end when she lost a bunch of weight. Black beauty with a small white patch on her tummy. Great cat … great friend … big hole in our life this week-end. But lots of found memories.

So we can relate to you loose and send or best wishes to you both.

The black ball of fur we got as a wedding gift lasted 19.5 years. Best replacement for him was waiting for us at the humane society.

    Much sympathy for your loss.

  • Richard KW0U:

She clearly had a wonderful and loving home. That was the best gift you could give her, and I am sure she knew it too. My deepest condolences on your loss. People who aren’t blessed with pets don’t understand, but for the rest of us they always stay in our hearts. Nine years later I still miss Jammer, our silly little rat terrier. And they give so much that we’re better for that too. When you and Marianne are ready you might want to consider a new cat. It won’t be Sadie, but in its own way will become part of your home.

I’m sorry about your loss. Although pets are not human, they are God’s creations put here for our enjoyment. We can become very attached and miss them terribly. Probably the best remedy is to go out and rescue another one. This will make the loss easier and also provide a good home for another animal.
    Best of 73

I have felt your pain. I too have lost my little buddy Simba last May. That was the hardest thing I have had to endure but we dive right in and have two new ones to love. Tootles and Junior…yes Junior looks just like Simba, it is canny. Go save someone from the pound Sadie would want you to.
