October QST went missing?

Each month brings three Amateur journals, two arriving via the post. I get used to the time of the month when they arrive. QST is always the later one, but since it changed some years ago to bulk shipping for it distribution (Shipped to the UK then redistributed by another company over here) it has never arrived any later than the 23rd of the month..

Of course I receive the automatic email telling me I can read the electronic version of QST, somehow though this method never has the same appeal as the real paper version.

September was nearly at the end, the leaves were falling off the trees Autumn was well in process, but still no QST. I knew it was lost, can we even trust the postman these days to deliver our mail? I contacted the circulation department at the ARRL,  I soon received a quick response to my email. I was asked to hold fire until the 1st of October and contact them again, which was only a few days more to wait, a bit more patience never hurt anyone. The 1st came, still no QST, so I was back on the keyboard again, I was informed one would be sent out straight away from the USA. Today it arrrived 7 days later..

After many years of being an overseas ARRL member this is the first time I have never received QST. It is good one can send an email and get sorted very "quickly" well done ARRL!

You are lucky. I live in Mississippi. I got the same e-mail you did but like you I’d rather turn the pages and occasionally fold one over to bookmark the page. I didn’t receive mine yet but today was a federal holiday. Columbus Day. I forgot and made two trips to the mailbox. Maybe tomorrow.

ARRL seems to be shipping later then in the past. For a long time I would get the magazine around the 10th of the month. Now it is closer to the 20th. I always get the email with the link for the digital one. I don’t mind digital magazine and article, but really prefer a good old fashion paper back that I can dog ear the pages, mark up and read anywhere without worrying about batteries going dead. Also a lot easier to thumb through fast and jump around. That said, it is harder on the eyes on a computer or tablet that holding the magazine in your hands. At least for me. Nice idea a concept, but I sure the hell hope they never cancel the printed one. I am already pissed at the crap they call LoTW and it’s lack of being user friendly. Cancelling the magazine and I for sure will drop them like a bad habit… Just my ranting and thoughts…

Although I love to have the printed version of QST each month, and continue to keep that coming even though the ARRL would love for me to opt out of it and go 100% electronic, I do take advantage of the other three options for seeing QST each month:

    1) I have the QST Android application installed on my Android-based NOOK reader, so I get it there for on-the-go reading whenever I want it. I choose to download it to the reader rather than using the online reader because I’m not always where I have a WiFi connection. To save space in the NOOK’s limited storage capacity, I only keep the current version downloaded unless I’m not done with one before the next one comes in (doesn’t usually happen that way).

    2) I can read QST online in my browser via the ARRL web site.

    3) I can install each month’s issue on my PC by downloading it from (2) above and keeping it stored locally on the PC. When viewing it on the browser, there’s a row of icons above the magazine pages — mouse over them until you see the one for downloading. Click it to get another page with all the instructions. I keep the downloaded install files in offline storage in case I need to reinstall it somewhere down the road.

Items 2 and 3 are available for all QST issues dating from January 2012 all the way to the current November 2015 issue.
