Excellent reading

There is a lot of rumble out in the CW community regarding a new book on the market. The CW way of life written by Chris Rutkowski NW6V. I am only a quarter of the way into it but this book is for anyone who is anywhere in their CW journey. In the few pages, I have learned about Samual Morse what he did and did not do for morse code and others named Alfred Vail and Friedrich Gerke who moved code along its journey.

Once past a short history lesson you read and learn about how code is linked to harmonics, and rhythm and step back and see the method. Other topics are moving from counting dits and Dahs, code speed blocks, habits for code learning and so on.
This book is worth a look and can be done here for your kindle the book is also available as a good old page-turning book on Amazon as well.

Ordered a copy from Amazon based on another review. Arrived today and it looks like an excellent read.

    Greetings!
I hope all is well with you and yours?
Thanks for the work that you do to bring this newsletter to us!
    Here is my issue:
I have been retired for about 6 years – my last job was a high school tech teacher, and although I have had my “ticket” for many years, and have enjoyed my “dabblings” with the hobby, I just haven’t had the time/resources to really “dive” into it. I would like to get involved, but I don’t have a lot of energy these days to do that – do you have any suggestions for 1 or 2 relatively simple and somewhat low cost avenues into the hobby? I have been grandfathered into the full license. Thank you for any suggestions you might have!
    Blessings, Craig Jackson

Good morning Craig and thanks for stopping by the blog and leaving a comment. In all fairness as you know our hobby is so large with many available interests in mind. Also, the budget can vary all over the map. I am going to leave you with my email address so we can go back and forth and narrow down your interests and budget. This way you can get back into the hobby without breaking the bank and with something that is of interest to you. My email is [email protected]
    Thanks, Craig for reaching out,

Hi Mike! I bought the Kindle version of “The CW Way of Life: Learning, Living, and Loving Morse Code (in a Digital World)” on Amazon 2 days ago for only $8.95 (the paperback is $19.29!) and I also purchased another interesting book this week in Kindle edition of Ukrainian amateur radio operator Volodymyr “Wlad” Gurtovy, US7IGN’s book titled, “War Diaries” that was published on November 9, 2022. The cost for it was only $5.99. The description of Wlad’s book on Amazon says, “This story is about how war came into the life of an ordinary Ukrainian when Russia attacked Ukraine in early 2022. His family fled to Poland but he was trapped by martial law restrictions. He lost his job and freedom of movement, but his amateur radio hobby and friends around the world helped him cope with all the trials that he had to endure.” I have Kindle on my PC, on my Amazon Fire HD8 tablet, and on my Moto G Pur Android smartphone so I can enjoy it wherever I go. My youngest son bought me a Amazon Echo Smart Speaker for Father’s Day 3 years ago that’s on my bedside table and it will read Kindle books to me. I have a Echo Dot in the kitchen that will do the same. I often listen to books or podcasts for about an hour after I first lie down each night and having a female voice read a book to me is a nice feature. For anyone that may be interested the War Diaries book can be purchased at https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BLZM8H9P and there’s also a BBC story on US7IGN, Wlad, at https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m001gj61

Good morning Cliff and very nice to hear from you, thanks for the recommendations and the links to the site. War diaries sound very interesting and will be on my list. In the past, I had tried listening instead of reading books but for me I find my mind wanders too much.
Thanks for your input Cliff and have a good what is left of the weekend and a good upcoming week.
