Check out the QSL card I received!

I received this QSL card in the mail Saturday January 28th. It is autographed by actor Tim Allen. He used to be Tim “the toolman” Taylor on the TV sitcom “Home Improvement,” but now he is Mike Baxter on the new ABC sitcom “Last Man Standing” that airs Tuesdays at 8 PM on ABC. Tim isn’t really a ham, but on the TV show he is and the ARRL was instrumental in helping make it as realistic as possible. He chose the callsign KA0XTT to represent KA0 X Tim Taylor. You can read all about it on the ARRL’s web site at http://bit.ly/A3Aucb.

Last Man Standing also has a Facebook page at http://www.facebook.com/KA0XTT If you would like to have one of Tim’s cards for your collection simply mail him one of your QSL cards (NO SASE required) to:

Now EVERYONE (except me) will want one of those cards.

Thank you, I’ll QSL right now. I’ve got a card one received years ago from Yaesu advertising a new rig that they said was a “space station”. It was sent by an alien via Box 88, Vega. He had the Worked All Galaxies Award too. Cute what people come up with.

It’s all in fun guys, just another fun part of enjoying the best hobby on earth!
I already enjoy CW,PSK31,MT63,Olivia,Hellschreiber,SSTV,and phone! And now a TV sitcom that gives a mention for our hobby that most common people still think is CB radio!
I appreciate “Last Man Standing” Producer John Amodeo, NN6JA, giving amateur radio some exposure on the currently number one show on the ABC network!

  • John KD8LDN:

I got mine this week, the kids were pretty excited as well. It’s a cool memento.

I’d have to say that so far I have’nt seen very much Ham Radio portrayed on this show. The January 17th episode was supposed to show Tim Allen making a QSO. Well I saw the whole episode & I did’nt see any QSO, unless they’re airing different ones in my area. Basically I’ve only seen him fiddling around with a handheld while talking with another person in the show &/or the camera shots of his setup in the background. It seems to me that if your main character in the show is supposed to be a Ham Radio operator then you would show him talking on his rig at least once per episode making a brief QSO. That would be a more realistic portrayal of our hobby. Because most Hams I know,(myself included) are on their radio’s at least once a day if not more. Of course I realize that the show is not just about him but that’s my assessment of the show so far from a Amateur Radio stand point.

I’m still awaiting mine. Hopefully it will be soon.

I am sending for one of the KA0XTT QSL cards. I enjoy Mr. Allen and the Staff of Last Man Standing. The show is one of the very few current family TV shows on the air today. Thank YOU for supporting the Amateur Radio hobby. Also,
Thank You for supporting the “State of Michigan” and for being the spoke person
for “Pure Michigan”! We are very honored.

Silly question, but I am guessing that one must send in a blank QSL card, or just fudge some info for his “log”? Need some printed anyway.

  • Dan AK4PX:

    Very cool!

4×6 printed up and going out Monday 😀

Here it is, a little ‘hammed’ up lol

The show’s producers have now posted three videos of the cards they’ve received so far on YouTube at the following links:

    Video 1 of 3: http://youtu.be/g0KQE7UblN8

    Video 2 of 3: http://youtu.be/EIjwNzZ-1kk

    Video 3 of 3: http://youtu.be/kEisVjpEpU4

There will likely be more coming. My card finally showed up at 3:50 into video # 3!
