Weekly Propagation Summary – 2019 May 27 16:10 UTC
Here is this week’s space weather and geophysical report, issued 2019 May 27 0149 UTC.
Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 20 – 26 May 2019
Solar activity was very low. No sunspots were observed on the solar disk and no Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at normal levels on 20-21 May and normal to moderate levels on 22-26 May.
Geomagnetic field activity was at quiet to unsettled on 20 May and 26 May. The remainder of the reporting period was quiet.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 27 May – 22 June 2019
Solar activity is expected to be very low throughout the outlook period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to range from normal to high levels. High levels are expected on 29 May – 02 Jun and moderate levels are expected on 03-12 Jun. Enhancements in electron flux are due to the anticipated influence of multiple CH HSSs. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be at normal background levels.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to range from quiet to active levels. Early on 27 May, unsettled to active levels are possible due to weak enhancements in the solar wind. Negative polarity CH HSS influence is expected to produce unsettled to active conditions from 28-30 May and quiet to unsettled conditions from 31 May-02 Jun. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be mostly quiet under nominal solar wind conditions.

Here is this week’s space weather and geophysical report, issued 2019 May 20 0537 UTC.
Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 13 – 19 May 2019
Solar activity was at very low to low levels, with low-level activity observed on 15 May due to a C2.0/SN flare from Region 2741 (N05 L=272, class/area Hsx/160 on 15 May). Very low-level activity was observed for the remainder of the period. Two eruptions were observed in coronagraph imagery, but were directed east and determined to not be geoeffective.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at high levels on 13, 15, and 16 May. Normal to moderate levels were observed for the remaining days in the period.
Geomagnetic field activity reached G3 (Major) storm levels on 14 May due to effects from a CME that erupted on 11 May. G3 storm conditions were observed during the 14/0600-0900 UTC synoptic period, with G2 stom conditions occurring in the 14/0300-0600 UTC period. Active conditions occurred in the 14/0900-1200 and 14/1800-2100 UTC periods. Solar wind parameters at the DSCOVR spacecraft were enhanced with Bt reaching as high as 15 nT accompanied by prolonged periods of southward Bz. Solar wind speed reached a maximum of 568 km/s. Unsettled conditions were observed on 16-17 May. Quiet conditions were observed for the remainder of the summary period.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 20 May – 15 June 2019
Solar activity is expected to be very low levels throughout the period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to be at high levels on 21-24 May and 29 May – 02 June due to coronal hole high speed stream effects. Normal to moderate levels are expected for the remainder of the period.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to be at active levels on 29 May due to recurrent coronal hole activity. Quiet to unsettled levels are expected for the remainder of the period.

Here is this week’s space weather and geophysical report, issued 2019 May 13 0226 UTC.
Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 06 – 12 May 2019
Solar activity was at low levels on 06, 07, and 09 May due to C-class flare activity from Region 2740 (N08, L=307 class/area Dho/280 on 05 May. The largest of the flares was a C9.9/1N at 06/0510 UTC. Mutliple eruptions were observed in coronagraph imagery, but only the halo CME from 06 May was geoeffective. The assymetric halo CME was first observed in SOHO LASCO C2 imagery at 06/2348 UTC. Additionally, a partial halo CME was first observed in LASCO C2 imagery at 12/2036 UTC and is determined to be Earth-directed and arrive at Earth on 17 May. Solar activity was at very low levels for the remainder of the summary period.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached high levels on 07, 11, and 12 May. Normal to moderate levels were observed throughout the remainder of the period.
Geomagnetic field activity reached active to G1 (Minor) storm levels on 11 May due to the arrival of a CME from 06 May. Impact was first observed by the DSCOVR spacecraft at 10/1655 UTC. Total reached a peak of 12 nT and Bz reached a maximum southward deflection of -11 nT. Solar wind averaged near 350 km/s throughout tranient passage. G1 (Minor) storm levels were observed during the 11/00-03 UTC synoptic period, with several active periods during the remainder of the UT day. Quiet to unsettled levels were observed for the remainder of the period.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 13 May – 08 June 2019
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels, with a slight chance of C-class flares throughout the period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to be at moderate to high levels on 13-23 May, and 29 May – 08 June. Normal to moderate levels are expected on 24-28 May.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach G1 (Minor) storm levels on 15 and 17 May due to CME arrival. Active conditions are expected on 29 May due to the influence of a recurrent coronal hole high speed stream. Quiet to unsettled conditions are expected for the remainder of the period.

Here is this week’s space weather and geophysical report, issued 2019 May 06 0135 UTC.
Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 29 April – 05 May 2019
Solar activity was at very low to low levels. New Region 2740 (N08, L=307, class/area Dho/280 on 05 May) produced a pair of C-class flares, the largest a C2/Sf observed at 04/2243 UTC. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronograph imagery.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at normal levels on 29 Apr – 01 May and reached high levels on 02-05 May. The maximum electron flux was 6,160 pfu observed at 03/1930 UTC.
Geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to active levels through the period. Quiet levels were observed on 29-30 Apr under a nominal solar wind regime. Late on 01 May through midday on 02 May, unsettled to active levels were observed under an enhanced solar wind environment due to influence from a negative polarity CH HSS. During this time frame, wind speeds peaked at near 565 km/s, total field reached 11 nT, while the Bz component reached a maximum southward extent of -10 nT. On 03-04 May, field conditions were at quiet to unsettled levels as negative polarity CH HSS influence continued. By 05 May, quiet conditions were observed under waning CH HSS influence.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 06 May – 01 June 2019
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels, with low levels likely through 20 May due to activity from Region 2740 and the return of old Region 2739 (N06, L=266). Very low conditions are anticipated after 20 May.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to be at moderate to high levels on 06-12 May, and again on 29 May – 01 Jun, due to CH HSS influence. Normal to moderate levels are expected on 13-28 May.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to range from quiet to active levels. Unsettled to active conditions are expected on 06-07 May and again on 28-31 May. Both enhancements in geomagnetic activity are due to recurrent, negativity polarity CH HSSs. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be at quiet levels.

Here is this week’s space weather and geophysical report, issued 2019 Apr 29 0213 UTC.
Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 22 – 28 April 2019
Solar activity was very low throughout the reporting period. No spotted regions were observed on the solar disk. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed in available coronagraph imagery.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit was at moderate levels on 22-23 Apr and decreased to normal levels for the remainder of the reporting period.
Geomagnetic field activity ranged from quiet to unsettled. A solar sector boundary crossing was observed late on 23 Apr which caused several periods of unsettled early into 24 Apr. No other significant signatures were observed in the solar wind data. Quiet conditions were observed for the remainder of the reporting period.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 29 April – 25 May 2019
Solar activity is expected to be at very low levels over the outlook period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to range from normal to high levels. High levels are expected on 02-12 May; moderate levels are expected on 29 Apr-01 Mar and 13-23 May. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be at normal levels.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to range from quiet to active levels. Active levels are expected on 01-02 May and 07 May; unsettled levels are expected on 30 Apr, 03 May, 05-06 May, 08-10 May and 19 May. The remainder of the outlook period is expected to be at quiet levels. All enhancements in geomagnetic activity are due to the anticipation of multiple, recurrent CH HSSs.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 15 – 21 April 2019
Solar activity was very low throughout the period. Region 2738 (N06, L=301, class/area-Hhx/400 on 17 Apr) produced several B-class events including a B8 flare at 20/0050 UTC. Region 2739 (N05, L=258, class/area-Cro/20 on 18 Apr) was inactive and stable during its migration across the solar disk. No Earth-directed coronal mass ejections (CMEs) were observed.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached high levels on 15 April with moderate levels observed throughout the remainder of the reporting period.
Geomagnetic field activity reached unsettled levels on 15-16 April due to coronal hole high-speed stream (CH HSS) influence. Quiet conditions were observed throughout the remainder of the reporting period.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 22 April – 18 May 2019
Solar activity is expected to be very low throughout the outlook period.
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels on 02-12 May with normal to moderate levels expected throughout the remainder of the outlook period.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach active levels on 27 April and 01-02, 07 May in response to several recurrent, negative-polarity CH HSSs. Quiet to unsettled levels are expected throughout the remainder of the outlook period.

Highlights of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 08 – 14 April 2019
Solar activity was very low throughout the period. Region 2738 (N06, L=297, class/area Cho/300 on 12 Apr) produced numerous B-class flare activity and low frequency radio burst activity. No Earth-directed CMEs were observed.
No proton events were observed at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit reached high levels thoughout the period.
Geomagnetic field activity was at quiet to unsettled levels on 08-13 April due to negative polarity CH HSS influence. Isolated active levels were observed early on 08-10 April. Quiet levels were observed on 14 April.
Forecast of Solar and Geomagnetic Activity 15 April – 11 May 2019
Solar activity is expected to be at predominately very low levels throughout the outlook period. A slight chance for low level activity is possible through 24 April from Region 2738 and again from 04-11 May upon the return of old Region 2738 (N06, L=297).
No proton events are expected at geosynchronous orbit.
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux at geosynchronous orbit is expected to reach high levels from 15-18 April and again from 02-11 May due to CH HSS influence. Normal to moderate levels are expected for the remainder of the outlook period.
Geomagnetic field activity is expected to reach unsettled levels on 24-25, 27-28 and 30 April and 01-02 and 05-07 May, all due to negative polarity CH HSS influence. Quiet conditions are expected throughout the remainder of the outlook period.
