    Reference the Balum the teflon tape protects the cores. I use transformer wire. I go to the motor rewind shop and get wire. They will have a bucket of leftover wire. Because the bucket gets low they can’t use it. Most times they will give it to you.
    I use 14ga or 12ga. The two big cores the fellow had is able to handle 2kw easy.

    As far as winding the balum it is easy to do. Just make sure keep count of your turns.
