A time for celebration

Once settled into the new place with boxes unpacked, furniture setup, the little "oh look at that" stuff around the house that has to be fixed and resting my weary bones once all that is said and done it's time to setup for radio.
I have always wanted to get involved in the CWops CW acadamy program to get my code speed up to some decent contest speed. I had looked at this program in the past but with work I just could not see myself having the needed time they were asking of students. I did not want to take a spot to find I could not complete the demanding program. I would have blocked someone who had the time and could advance. So this is a program I want to look into and get my code moving in the direction I have always wanted it too.
Paying more attention to my blog regarding posting and updating as I am sad to say it has taken a back seat. In the past I did not want to post for the sake of posting something. I hope with retirement and my increase activity in amateur radio with operating, reading and going to club meetings it will spur me on to posting.
Along with the above activities there will projects around the house, getting out to exercise and saying a warm hello to our new neighbours. Then there is the touring around the area that Julie and I can do as well.
I am not sure how many posts I will be pumping out in the near future as our move is at the end of August and before that it's the task we all love....packing. The the next task.....unpacking and setting up.

Thanks for sharing, Mike, I’m sure you and Julie will have a great time. Just be aware that before the move you’ll find more stuff to get rid of than you can believe, and once settled you will be busier than you expect. Enjoy the change, and here’s to better DX from your new QTH!

I’m with you. I left the Chicago area and went to Houston Texas. No more snow and ice for me and XYL. Have been studying my code on line getting up to speed also.I do get hours to see to it most days.

Congrats, Mike, and I’m sure you’ll have a great time at your new place. It’s quite a change of pace being retired, and you’re right to be planning to fill your time usefully. My XYL complained about me swanning around the house with a smile on my face for the first few weeks, but she got used to it and yours will too! Good luck and keep us posted:-)

Good evening Robert, I wish where we were moving was less snow but that would be a dream. Down east they are famous for the snow but I really don’t care as I am retired and if it snows big time I will just relax at home and wait for the roads to be cleared and then go about my biz. As for the code I really want to spend the time to get it up to a decent contest speed as well as a conversation speed as well. I would be thrilled if I could “arm chair copy” the code without relying on a pen and paper.

It’s so true you really have to have plans and just not wait to see what comes along as if you plan that way really nothing will come along. For sure I will keep posting regarding the adventure.

Ahhhhh Retirement.. Every day will be a Saturday from now on. Only problem though, the Golden Years aren’t that golden so do what you can now before you can’t.

Hi Mike, congratulations on your retirement! I retired 4 years ago, but that was due to a layoff, which actually worked out for the best! I had 36 years with the company at the time. I was planning on retiring in 2020, so it was a bit early, but I ended up taking care of my Dad. He passed last month, so I’ve been going through his “house” downstairs cleaning, deciding what to keep, what to toss. He was N6QDJ. It hasn’t really hit me that he’s gone. Anyway, I’ve been working harder since retiring than I ever did at work, what with honey-dos, tinkering with various projects, etc. Trust me, you won’t have time to be bored! Congrats again!

Good evening Rick and thanks for the comment, very sorry to hear about your dad and for sure it is a very rough time. You just don’t know how much your going to miss someone until they are gone. Going through the house for sure would bring back memories. We were just out to lunch with a couple who are retired and they said the same that I would be very busy in retirement.
