Icom does it again!

IC-7300MK2

For those Icom fans out there, the company has announced that (hopefully) by the end of 2025, a new IC- 7300 now called the IC-7300MK2. Those who already have the IC-7300, and there are many of those you may be interested in the upgrades done. There is a CW decoder, an HDMI port for an external monitor, RX antenna in/out, improved RMDR (reciprocle mixing dynamic range click HERE for more info), LAN Ethernet port for remote operation, and the USB port is now a USB-C port. I am not sure about the price point on this radio, but for sure more than the IC-7300. I wonder in the new year if we will see lots of IC-7300 coming on the market? Also, if you have been holding off on a new Ic-7300, you may find some nice discounts to move the radios off the shelf and make room for the MK2.

Let me know your thoughts on the rig and if you have heard any other news. Are you going to pick one up and maybe sell your IC-7300 to gather some needed ham bucks?

I wonder if this IC-7300Mk2 development is in any way related to the mystery IC-7610 ver 32 you posted about previously – could there be an IC-7610 Mk 2 hidden behind that weird version number, accidentally peeking out from behind the curtain a little early? Maybe a 7610 with some of these same upgrades? I tend to be a bit pessimistic at times when it comes to corporations, so the simplest answer being tariff costs sure sounds “right” even if it’s galling, but maybe there’s room to be pleasantly surprised instead.

Thanks very much for being on the ball with the news on this new radio, you don’t miss a beat.

Good morning, Daniel and very nice to hear from you and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Yes, it does seem odd that the MK2 is just around the corner from the 7610 Ver 32. But with the 7610, it was very low-key and zero details from Icom. With the MK2, it was full of info, nice pictures and release dates. We shall see over time if the 7610 gets a nice makeover, but from dealers in the U.S., it seems the ver 32 is on its way and really nothing else about it.

It would be nice if Icom had also announced a price point for the new radio. I understand that tariffs will make it slightly more difficult, but they could have announced that based on today’s tariff rates (which could change), we plan the new radio will have a retail price point of $xxxx.00.

I suspect they might want to move out as many of the current inventory as possible, especially if the newer model is only a few hundred dollars more.

Good morning Craig and thanks for taking the time to leave a comment. Yes it would be nice and for sure help those who want to purchase the radio to plan ahead. I do recall most other radios such as Elecraft, Flex and Yaesu when rolling out a rig lets say at what used to be called Dayton never put a price on it. Even a ball park figure would be nice but sticker shock is a negative to the big rollout with all the bells and whistles being talked about.
    Have a good week Craig,
