Baofeng UV-5R Giveaway at American Radio Supply

baofeng-uv5r-bg2
Looks like the folks at American Radio Supply are giving away a Baofeng UV-5R. They’re a sponsor of our site and I’m happy to see them offering this kind of opportunity. If you’re in the market for a new HT, skip on over and check out this little radio! Looks like the contest ends January 31, 2013 at midnight (Eastern time) and is open to licensed U.S. hams.

Do you own a Baofeng UV-5R? Have you used one? If so, what do you think of it?  How does it compare to some of the other inexpensive HTs on the market?

I have 3 of them and though not a lot of use yet they seem sound. Got 3 different colors for 3 Hams w/matching 3800mAh cells, etc.

Just received the programming cable (had ordered the UV-3R vs UV-5R cable) so will see how CHIRP works vs manual programming.

I have the 5r+. Great radio. At least comparable to the Wouxun.

Looks like a nice radio, I could use a good handheld.

I have one I use as a second, or backup radio. I’ve been pretty pleased with it over he last nine months or so I’ve had it. I think it compares very favorable to the other lower end HTs. It probably gets as much or more use than my FT-60. I like the Commercial FM RX for low impact events or just walking around the park. My FT-60 is still my primary go-to HT but the 5r is fairly impressive for the price and a heck of a lot cheaper if dropped or loaned out and lost.

I would like to have one of these too.

Don’t own one but have been looking to purchase one. Currently have an Icom HT but would like a second HT. This one looks like it has a lot of features for a small price.

    Like the size!

  • KØBOG:

    Like the price and size!

  • William/KI4YZN:

I would like to have one of these, could use a new upgraded HT
