WSJT-X using JT9-1

WSJT-X is an experimental version of WSJT implementing JT9, a new mode designed especially for use on the MF and LF bands. JT9 shares many characteristics with the popular modes JT65 and JT4. All three are designed for making QSOs under extreme weak-signal conditions. They use nearly identical message structure and source encoding.

JT9 offers five choices for the duration of timed T/R sequences: submodes JT9-1, JT9-2, JT9-5, JT9-10, and JT9-30 use 1, 2, 5, 10, and 30 minutes, respectively. Submodes with longer transmissions trade reduced throughput for smaller bandwidth and increased sensitivity. The slowest sub-mode, JT9-30, has total bandwidth 0.4 Hz and operates at signal-to-noise ratios as low as -40 dB measured in the standard 2.5 kHz reference bandwidth. More info.

Of course I was very curious about this software and yesterday I installed the software. This morning I was testing for the first time JT9-1 on 160 meter. Not very long maybe 10 minutes. I didn't receive any station. Later this morning I got an email from LA3JJ that he heard me! (see screenshot) because it’s nice to have a WSJT mode for making QSO’s with low power on 160 meter. So tonight I will tuning again for JT9 on 160 meter. (and tomorrow morning) I use dial frequency 1838 KHz USB, 1500 Hz. Today I was to quick with shutting down JT9-1

On 80 meter I worked DO7FOX/P and I was 59+5 db in Germany with SSB. On 20 meter I worked E79D from Sarajevo, Bosnia. On 15 meter I worked 5N7M from Abuja, Nigeria (see photo). On 40 meter: M0TWW Tim from England and OP200HC from Belgium. All with SSB.
