The best radio

The Yaesu FT-102 is a good radio with some great listening. A radio with valves, and transmits 150-180 wts. One of the best radios yaesu. The problem is to tune the final stage always changing band. I recommend to a friend.
Another great radio for my Yaesu collection. Superb audio reports and a fantastic receiver. Upgraded all of the relays and runs close to 200 watts out. A truly great performer if you can find one!

The FT102 is the last hybrid tranciever yaesu made and a true classic with performance ahead of its time. Perspective buyers should be prepared to replace all the unsealed relays in these radios and some capacitors to put into good service. I would sugest changing all the HV caps inluding bias and screan grid ccts. They always featch a good price and rarely sell for less than $400 aud. $600 is more typical. Alighnment of IF stage and esecialy the local oscillator board best done by sweeping with an audio oscillator. They have really good audio rx and tx when set up correctly.Cleanest operating signal is ussing no ALC on tx so keep the mic gain down low and check your RF with a CRO to get a feel for the optimal setting. If the ALC meter is moving the mic gain is set too high !!! Only tune the tank cct to the recommended 300ma plate current per the manual. Higher than 100watts tx possible but the IMD's go a lot higher = TVI and other issued if misused. An even better rig if used with the digital mem VFO FV102DM. Hope to hear more FT-102's on air soon.Read full review
