This is a classic 2m FM transceiver from the late 1970's. Built like a tank (pick one up with one hand and you'll see), it was an early synthesised vhf transceiver with digital readout, still quite a novelty at the time.I had one of these many years ago, but sold it as 12.5KHZ channel spacing was being introduced and the set can only do 5kHz steps, with 10kHz from the rotary tuning dial. Fine if you only stick to 25kHz channels, which was normal in its time. Its receiver is very sensitive, if you get one that hasn't been tampered with. Two later models were introduced, the 227RA and RB, which had scanning and a few memory channels. Both were 10W output, like the earlier model. All these were superceded by the CPU2500R, a bigger and more versatile unit.

FT-227R is a GREAT radio. Sure it is old, manual tune, one memory channel. yada yada yada. Look, it is metal, very strong, Loud clear audio, adequate power, no bumps and whistles, but if you are menu challenged, use only a few freqs, this is for you. The biggest complaint... no tone board. Well, it does have tone burst and if you adjust the tone that to your repeater's tone, the burst transmitter will key it up, and most repeaters don't need tone all the time, just to break the initial squelch. Get one, they are just about bullet proof.
