I bought my Kenwood TM-221a, new, when they first came out in February 1989. It's one of the easiest radios to program & operate, that Is wood ever made. It was my mobile rig, until I got a TM-V7A, in '96. It was then moved to my shack, where it's been since. It ran continually until I went inactive in the spring of '04. It set on my radio desk for the next 6 years. In 2010, I got active again. My TM-221 has pretty much ran continually for the last 6 years. This radio is over 25 years old & has ran continually for almost 15 of those 25 years. It still operates as it did when it was new, with the exception of the display lights burning out. No light of any kind would last longer than these did. Since the display can still easily be seen, I have not seen the need to replace the lights. I strongly recommend the Kenwood TM-221A 2 Meter radio.Read full review

works fine has a very sensitive receiver and as it should have had good reports on transmissions. I bought this has my first HAM radio for two meters not having any thing to compare it to it seems to be a very good transceiver.
