I love this radio had a 820 but sold it was great to be able to buy this radio!!!! very solid radio took all covers off only found one wire to reconnect and the fan wires were stuck to the final tube fixed and all good now. I don't think you can beat the receive on these old units.

Excellent Kenwood hybrid transceiver which maybe 30 years old by now but these radios are built for the long haul and not just for the period of the warranty. Beautiful audio and easily replaceable 6146b output valves ( cheap and easily available. )and the driver valve is easily replaced also. Covers ham bands only and the " plate and load " skill is easily learned after a read of the manual. Esthetically pleasing to the eye and far cheaper than the newer radios ( for the price of a modern radio you could buy 3 of these radios ) which are aimed at the " plug and play brigade " who play radio without having any idea what is going on under the covers. Do yourself a favour and snap up a transceiver which actually looks and operates in a manner which the new radios cant even compete.

All of the hybrids back in the late 70 and early 80 were extremely well made. 520,530,820,and 830 were Kenwoods top radios. If you can pick one up, you can't go wrong . Very tough tube finals, and with the solid state receive, very little drift.
