Amazing feature set for the money. Easy to use. Lacks quick split function key though. Needs the optional CW filter to avoid having to adjust the DSP width. I hear the optional SSB filter is amazing. I would not mind having that. Great AGC once it locks on to the signal. Having a devoted knob for RF squelch would be nice, rather than having to use a press and hold key to activate it. Regular squelch is USELESS in AGC slow mode. Works okay in Fast mode.

Hi all, My name is Joe, and I have been a ham radio operater since 1985. Most of all my radios were Kenwoods. I use them in my home as base station radios. Of all the radios I have owned, this TS-480HX is my favorite by a long shot. I picked it because the main part does not have to be in plain sight. The control head can be placed wherever I want it on my desk. Also this radio has a full 200 watts output, which definitely gives me an edge over the typical 100 watt station. The receiver in the Kenwood TS-480HX is truly world class. I love that I have the ability to shape the transmit and receive roofing filters, using the free Kenwood software. Using this radio with a Shure 550 desktop microphone, and a high quality speaker, make this the absolute base station HF transceiver I have ever owned. I would highly recommend the Kenwood TS-480HX to anyone. JoeRead full review
