This little rig packs a lot in a small package at a reasonable price. Great receiver with added filters and DSP the automatic notch function is terrific. Transmit is a clean 100 watts on all HF with a variable carrier point, it adds quite a punch to matching voice and microphone response. 6 & 2 meter is added bonus. Easy to read illuminated LCD display makes it easy to read - especially useful in mobile.

Radio looks like new with power cord, manual, and original box. Sorry to say I haven't had time to get on the air yet have been working way too much, but looking forward to a break soon. Thanks for nice radio. Rick

First solid state HF rig for me! Works well, very happy with what is contained in such a small unit. Getting reports of good signal just running the native 100W output.

Although many CB'ers buy the IC-706 because it can be modified for use on CB bands at 100 watts, it is still one of the best, most reliable, easy-to-operate Ham radios ever made. Compact, yet solid as a rock, the receiver sensitivity alone rivals many of the more modern rigs out there. This is the perfect radio for Technician Class operators, allowing them to use the 50MHz and 144MHz bands and then migrate to HF when they get their General Class. I have two of them--one mobile and one in a solar-assisted man-pack for DXpeditions /hiking/camping. SInce there are many of them out there in operation, parts and service are readily available, though parts like the Separation Cable and filters can get expensive. Even so, general repairs to the finals and front end are relatively inexpensive. If you find one at a decent price, then go for it--you won't be sorry!Read full review

installation is easy. take off two screws on the back of the head unit and take off the back cover. You then have access to place the spring in place and then the latch. Put back the backplate and screws and your done. Its not worth the $25 I paid but since its a out of manufactured part thats the price we pay.
