Almost 'good as new' in appearance and function, and was exactly as advertised. Rather than trying to be 'full featured', this is a simple, easy-to-use receiver, and even with my ground-hugging antenna, really brings in the stations, including fairly distant ones if they're running decent power.

Construction manual is very precise and must be followed to a letter, no improvising. Unfortunate fact is that a kit is separated from its manual and sold on E-bay as two items (this lowers an items appeal to a potential buyer). Cleaning an older piece of equipment will only be appreciated by a potential buyer (no dust. no bugs). Methods used to build this product prevented it from reaching its full operational potential.

Reading the previous low reviews is disappointing in that those two have no idea what they are talking about. The HR 1680 is actually an EXCELLENT receiver for what it was intended, which was a low cost 80 - 10 meter rx. It has very good sensitivity, under .3 uv in my Lab. The selectivity is fair to good and adequate for non contesting, CW operation. The unit is easy to work on if you have any real technical knowledge. It can operate with either your 115 AC mains or it can be powered with 12 volts DC. It is MUCH better than Heathkits older HR10, especially above 7 MHz. Matched wit the HX 1681, you'll have a very decent CW only HF station, less the WARC bands and 160 meters. You can spend over $10K on a modern xceiver but for casual operation the HR 1680 will hold it's own.
