The audio quality on the Drake radios is exceptional. Tube type finals are very forgiving and not subject to SWR limitations found in the Solid State rigs. Repairs are very easy, all tubes are still available and the manual is very good. Tune up becomes second nature once you practice it a little and lets you use your real ham skills that you miss in the latest push button rigs. The Power Supply is built like a tank; never known a transformer to fail! Made in the USA of course.

The first thing I did when I purchased the TR-4C was send it to WB4HFN for functional refurbishment. As always, Ron did a great job and the transceiver easily puts out 150 - 180 watts on 80, 40 and 20 (the only bands I frequent). I've never used it on 10 meters. I typically allow five minutes for warm up and then it's good to go. Like all of the 4-line product, the receive is outstanding and rivals the newer technology. The only shortcoming is that it was not designed to do 160 meters. However this radio does everything it was designed to do, and it does it very well. In addition, it's lots of fun to operate.
Looks great! Very happy with purchase! Thanks!

The TR4 was the first real radio I got after getting my General in 1965. I loved that radio so with ebay the opportunity to find another one is here. I picked one up and am restoring it and plan to use it. The rcv on this rig is still dynamite.
