Bullet Proof Power Supply
Astron power supplies, especially the linear supplies (with power transformers) are about as reliable as any electronic device could be. They last for years and years. When and if they finally do fail, the repair is usually simple. I have used them to power my ham radio equipment for at least the last 30 years with no serious issue. This 12 amp supply I recently purchased is no exception. It was a little on the dirty side when I received it, as expected, but it worked fine. After a little clean up, I expect to get many years of service from it.Astron power supplies, especially the linear supplies (with power transformers) are about as reliable as any electronic device could be. I've been using Astron power supplies for over 30 years. These are excellent power supplies and are built like a tank. For low power applications I like the RS-12A. The RS stands for Regulated Supply and the 12A is the maximum current surge (ICS) value at a 50% duty cycle. The RS-12A runs off of 105-125 VAC with the norm being about 115 VAC. The AC line-in is protected by a 3 amp user friendly fuse. Total power consumption is rated about 300 watts. The output is a very stable and flat filtered dc votage that usually range around 13.8 VDC. However, I've seen outputs range from 12.6 to 14.2 VDC on various supplies. The normal output current rating is 9 amps continuous with 12 amps peak at the 50% duty cycle. The RS-12A is a 12 volt regulated linear power supply. These supplies are ... Whether you need a supply to power a radio or just for projects, The RS and RM, (regulated metered), power supplies from Astron will fill the ticket. You should never pay for shipping on these supplies. There are several folks out there that ship for free. Remember, these are linear and therefore have a hefty transformer and large capacitors in them that make up their weight.
